1966 El Camino

Imagine driving this vintage vixen down the entire length of Route 66. Alas, it will not happen! Sure we'll look real cool in it, but will we feel cool? Can we really handle the heat in the desert without air conditioning? Where do we pack all our stuff so it won't be stolen? How much gas will it drink by the time we get to Phoenix? How much of a larger carbon footprint will it leave than a newer car? And, it comes equiped with a antiquated sound system. Cassettes? Is that even considered old school? I could understand if it had an 8-Track system.

It's still okay to dream though. You just need to fine tune your dreams and think them through.

Check back soon to see the other cars that didn't make the list.

Born to be wild my friend...I concur with anonymous, that is indeed one sweet ride...Pity it won't be seeing all that America has to offer...The Surfman & his pal Dr.Lava experienced an American tour in a 17 foot land yacht called "Moby" ( a 1969 white Dodge Coronet 440 Station Wagon), and we had such a brillant time; prepare yourselves for a feast of the senses. One day we were in the badlands and 7 wild mustangs(the horses, not the car) came shooting around a canyon...I thought we were having a vision quest of sorts until I concluded it was unlikely we had the same one...Gosh darnit, I envy you both and the adventures you are going to have, can't wait to follow your blog of the trip; and just for the record, you guys are doing the right thing choosing a chariot that is a tad more mordern than the El Camino...these times are a changin!!!!
